Walking Tour: History of the Ipswich River

Join us for a one hour walk with  Ipswich Town Historian Gordon Harris. As we walk along the river we’ll hear about the history of the Ipswich River from the Paleo-Indian, Colonial, and Industrial periods through the modern era. The walk is approximately one mile (plus a liesurely walk back to the start location). 

Where: Meet at the mural at the Riverwalk Extension behind Zumi’s in Downtown Ipswich, near 4 Union Street, Ipswich. 

This event is part of the Trails and Sails. Celebrating its 23rd year in 2024, Trails & Sails is an event series that brings awareness and appreciation for heritage resources around Essex County, Massachusetts, which is a federally designated National Heritage Area. Historically, Trails & Sails has focused on outdoor activities such as guided hikes and excursions on the water, but over the years it has grown to include historic house tours, lectures, community celebrations, special exhibitions, craft demonstrations, and many other diverse activities.
