ABOUT US

OUR MISSION:

To protect and restore the Ipswich River and its watershed, now and for future generations.

Our Vision: The Ipswich River and streams, ponds and coastal waters of our region are healthy and beautiful. Clean waters flow year-round, native fish and wildlife thrive, and the river is resilient and adaptable to climate change. Natural areas keep the river clean and provide places for families and community members to enjoy nature. Our drinking water is clean, safe and abundant. We work in committed partnership with communities, businesses, schools and other organizations to educate the public to protect the river and the watershed forever.

Our Values:

  • Community Focused — fostering an informed and engaged watershed community by being Approachable, Empowering, and Responsive to and Transparent with our members and with the public at large
  • Affirmative — taking a stand in favor of something instead of against something and by staying positive in the face of negativity
  • Collaborative — working in concert with partners to increase our impact in recognition of the limits of our own expertise and capacity
  • Data Driven — ensuring that our approach is based on proven science and solid facts
  • Action Oriented carefully considering and weighing the pros and cons of each alternative approach and then enacting all possible positive steps
  • Inclusive lowering barriers to river access for all people living in the watershed and by encouraging their unique way to experience and celebrate the river
  • Respectful and Graceful meeting each person where they are at in regards to their understanding of river issues and their level of comfort in engaging with the river and helping them to move forward from there at their own pace

The Ipswich River Watershed Association was founded in 1977. Over the years we have since built a strong base of support through our donors, members and partnerships. Please join us, as we grow and improve services for residents and communities across the North Shore of Massachusetts.
