Maeve Hitchcock, Climate Resiliency Intern

Hello! My name is Maeve Hitchcock and I’m from Swampscott, Massachusetts and this summer I am the Climate Resiliency Intern here at IRWA! In the fall I will be a junior at Brandeis University in Waltham majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Climate Science, Justice, and Policy. In particular I love learning about environmental history and policy and think that understanding the history of our natural environment as well as the ways we have viewed our role in and responsibilities to nature is super important.

I am excited to get started and learn more about IRWA, the Ipswich river, and all of the moving pieces that go into doing environmental conservancy, planning, and resiliency work. Growing up on the northshore I have had the privilege to spend time in so many different types of natural environments from beaches, rivers, and forests and as I have taken more ecology and conservation biology classes in school I have been able to start connect the scientific knowledge I am learning with my first hand experiences and memories of the places I love so much.

This connection is what makes me passionate about environmental work and pushes me to keep learning more and find ways to get involved in local conservation efforts. Outside of work this summer I also hope to spend some time at the beach, camping, or hiking local trails with my dog Banjo.
