EMBRACING EVERYTHING AND AN OCEAN
Many years ago an old Closeteer came upon a quote attributed to Blaise Pascal 17th century French mathematician, physicist, and philosopher. He hasn’t been able to find it again but remembers its essence. “The mind of man is but a speck in space, yet with it he can contemplate the universe.” We might add the verb study to contemplate; Pascal certainly studied. His quote was recalled in the Closet upon reading two books recently loaned us; Bill Bryson’s A Short History of Nearly Everything and Simon Winchester’s Atlantic, the latter just off the press.
